OK Friends! Alabama comes off of an emotional win over LSU to claim the SEC west title last week. But this week’s focus is Mississippi State. Two years ago Alabama made the trip to Starkville only to return with a 12-7 loss.

Now to the game…

Mississippi State came out trying to intimidate Alabama with a very nice black jersey trimmed in garnet. I admit I did like the jerseys but Mississippi St. needs to remember the last team who tried to intimidate Alabama with black jerseys, The Georgia Bulldogs. For the people that don’t know…

Alabama spanked the Dawgs!

Mississippi’s main focus was to try to keep the game close by running the ball to eat up the clock, but Mississippi State came out on their first drive and apparently Tyson Lee forgot the game plan. He came out chunking the ball, trying to beat Marquis Johnson deep, but it didn’t work.

For the most part, Mississippi State blew opportunities in the first half by throwing an interception to Mark Barron and being unable to sustain the drive.

When Mississippi State did run the ball, Rolando McClain & the Tide defense punished Anthony Dixon.

So I guess you can tell by what I have told you so far, that Mississippi State did not score in the first half. Alabama on the other hand scored on a long pass from McElroy to Hanks for a TD. Later in the half Mark Ingram capped a drive with a 2yd drive, making 14-0 at the half.

And now the 2nd half…

Alabama came out and drove the ball but could only come away with a FG, making the score 17-0. Mississippi State’s offense didn’t improve in the 2nd half. They could only manage a FG for the entire game. Making their total output for the night 3pts.

Alabama on the other hand started gashing Miss St.’s defense with runs by Mark Ingram & Trent Richardson.

Greg McElroy had another good game by completing passes to Hanks, Mazes & yes, he even got Julio Jones into the act.

McElroy threw a long TD pass to a wide open Julio Jones. But the best was yet to come later in the game when Mark Ingram finally put the dogs to sleep with a 73yd run that ended the scoring, making the final 31-3!

In closing, Alabama’s trip to Starkville was just a normal business trip. Miss St. for the first time this year, really took a beating at home and all the people with their cowbells couldn’t save them.

Alabama vs. LSU

Hello friends!

This week Alabama has a chance to sow up the SEC west title and punch their ticket for Atlanta, but standing in their way are the Bayou Bengals of LSU.

So let the fireworks begin!

In the 1st half, this was truly an old fashioned SEC game. The defenses got out there and knocked the snot out of each other. And while watching the game, from Alabama’s point of view, it was like Nick Saban was going out of his way to please the commentators and sports writers by having Greg McElroy throw the ball all over the field. For the most part, Greg did a good job with the exception of right before 1/2 time. Alabama down 7-3 and driving for a possible go-ahead TD, McElroy threw an interception. I thought Nick Saban was going to kill him.

Alabama’s running game was not up to snuff in the first half. LSU was all over Mark Ingram.

Ok America! I know you don’t know who this good looking fella is….

This is my father in law, Ronnie. Just to tell you a little about him, he is a good ole’ boy from Lincolnton, GA and a Bulldog fan. So at 1/2 time, he called me on the phone and wanted to know if I had a crying towel out and I told him no because I was not worried.

Now back to the game…..

The 2nd half Alabama came out and played football Alabama style. In other words, it turned into the Mark Ingram show….

Although Ingram didn’t score a TD this week, he did account for 144yds on the ground. I don’t know of any coach in the country that wouldn’t be willing to take that!

LSU countered with Charles Scott who later in the game broke his collar bone and was lost for the season. Bad luck for the Tigers. On top of that, Jordan Jefferson also left the game with what was described as a sprained ankle. That left the Tigers missing a few teeth!

LSU did manage to score a TD and try a two pt conversion but it was no good.

Making the total pts for LSU 15. But I guess the biggest play of the game was when McElroy hit Julio Jones for a 73yd TD pass, sealing the Tigers fate (24-15).

In closing, today’s game was good if you were an Alabama fan and bad if you were a Tiger because now all of the newspaper people can shut the H@LL up……

South Carolina vs. Arkansas

Hello friends!

This will be the first of two blogs that I will do this week.

Sorry I missed you last week but I had been dealing with some serious issues.

Now to Carolina v. Arkansas!

SC makes a trip over to Fayetteville hoping this trip will be a lot better than their trip last week to Knoxville where it was truly a house of horrors for the Gamecocks!

Now for the 1st half…

For the most part, the 1st half was kinda boring but had a few moments. And the saddest part of it, is that this was really the only time that SC played well. They jumped out to a 10-0 lead on Ark. but the lead evaporated at halftime as the Hogs tied it 10-10.

The ole’ ball coach this past Saturday showed glimpses of his past by throwing his headset and his gameplan all over the sideline. All people that follow SEC football know if you get Coach Spurrier throwing things then you’ve got him right where you want him.

Now the second half…..

Ark. came out and basically took over the game by dominating the 3rd quarter. Ryan Mallett had a Ryan Mallett day. When he wasn’t over throwing his receivers, he was threading the needle. Mallett’s main target this week was DJ Johnson, the TE.

Don’t get me wrong, Steven Garcia didn’t have a bad day but this is the time of the year that Carolina collapses. I don’t know why they do that because they do have some of the best athletes in the south. So it must be coaching! No, I’m not talking about the ball coach, I am talking about his staff because Carolina could only muster 6pts the second half.

Arkansas on the other hand was able to score 23 points making the final 33-16.

In closing, it is obvious to me that SEC west is much stronger than the east this year. So until next week…

Alabama vs. Tennessee

Hello Friends! This is Alabama-Tennessee week, although a week later. This game is traditionally played the third Saturday in October, but I think it will still be a great game.

Lane Kiffin and his Vols team have had two weeks to brag about their beat down of the Georgia Bulldogs. Now they need to strap up their chin straps and get ready to face the best team they have left on their schedule. For TN to keep this game close, TN needs to control the ball and keep Mark Ingram on the sideline. Alabama’s key for victory on offense is having Greg McElroy show up this week and Mark Ingram just needs to do his thing. Defense needs to punish Compton and Hardesty. I guess we will see later today who decided to show up.

Ok friends, I was right! This was a great game. This game reminded me of games from the past. A good ole fashioned slobber-knocker! TN came down to Tuscaloosa and played a hell of a game.

Jonathan Crompton had another good game (21 for 36, 265yds, 1TD) and Monterio Hardesty ran well enough to keep Bama’s defense honest (18 for 55yds). Greg McElroy still didn’t play great, but he didn’t loose the game. He was 18 for 29, 120yds. Alabama went out of their way to make sure McElroy didn’t loose the game by having Mark Ingram run the wild elephant. Ingram was 18 for 99yds. The one bright spot for McElroy was actually getting the ball to Julio Jones 7 times for 55yds. But the players that won the game for Bama were Leigh Tippin (4 for 4 in FG attempts) and Terrence “Mount” Cody, who will go down in the history books of the Alabama Tennessee game with two blocked FG, the most important of the two coming with 4 seconds left in the game.

So in closing, I want the TN fans to know that I think TN played a hell of a game and I look forward to seeing them next year.

Arkansas vs. Ole Miss

This week we have Arkansas & Ole Miss. An SEC showdown to see where they will finish in the standings. Arkansas comes off of a gut-wrenching loss to FL, which led to the SEC suspending the officiating crew for bad calls. Ole Miss comes off of a win against a middle of the road UAB team.

Now to the game!

Ole Miss came out fast and furious with runs by Dexter McCluster and Brandon Bolden. Jevan Snead actually played ok.

Yes, he did throw 2 INT, but also had 2 TD. His two TD passes went to Shay Hodge (25yd pass) and Dexter McCluster (64yds). Snead’s total passing yds were 332yds (It’s about time he showed up). But by far the player of the game was Dexter McCluster.

His total yds receiving and rushing were 266yds. The breakdown goes like this. Rushing: 22 for 129yds, Receiving: 7 for 137 and 1 TD. Ole Miss has a chance to make a decent bowl game (maybe the Cotton Bowl). But it’s all up to Ole Miss.

Now Arkansas! Ryan Mallett didn’t have a great game, overthrowing his receivers all day, but in his defense, his receivers didn’t help much. Too many dropped passes.

Michael Smith came back from an injury but just didn’t look 100% (6 for 36yds).

So in closing, the Rebels beat the Hogs on both sides of the ball and executed the playbook better than Arkansas. That is why the final score was 30-17.

Week 7~ Alabama vs. South Carolina

This is the weekend when all of the Alabama family gets together.

This week Alabama welcomes the old ball coach & the Gamecocks to town! Last week Alabama staked claim the SEC west title and SC had to hold off a pesky KY team.

Well this week I am not going to bore you will a lot of stats. This game was a nightmare from an offensive state of mind and a fantasy for those who crave defense. Offensively both teams, with the exception of Mark Ingram sucked!

Without Ingram, Alabama would be in serious trouble because Greg McElroy has developed a brain freeze on running the offense. I know most people will say that it is just because the defense has adjusted but what’s the problem with being able to get Julio Jones the ball? So now you can see from my point of view (An Alabama Fan) that I am not a happy camper with my offense excluding Ingram. Defensively, I am happy as a pig in s#!*. Rolando McClain, the defensive captain, along will a pressuring defensive line, a secondary that can match up with most receivers in the country and a field goal kicker that is dependable 95% of the time make for one happy Bama fan.

Now on to Carolina….

Of course by now, you can tell that Carolina did nothing on offense. But let me be the first one to congratulate Carolina’s defense! They played an excellent game with the exception of stopping the run. Mark Ingram punished the Carolina defense for 246yds & 1TD. 118 of them coming after 1st contact.

I want to let all Carolina fans know that I hope Mo Brown recovers well from his concussion. I am not like TN fans who were happy when he was injured. It actually scared me to see him hit the ground the way he did.

In closing, Yes Alabama won the game & I was happy & we all sang Rammer Jammer but I am looking forward to singing it to the Ole Rocky Toppers!

Week 6 Florida vs. LSU

Friends this is it!

The Gators go into Death Valley to face the LSU Tigers. LSU is almost unbeatable at night in Tiger Stadium having won the last 32 games at night there. America is waiting to see if Tim Tebow will play or not?

OK here we go…

LSU’s first drive stalled but LSU punted the ball inside the 5yd line where Florida would start their drive.

Well America…Tebow did start the game but their offense was not up to standard.Even Tebow looked nervous to start the game. The Gators moved the ball down to the 11yd line where they had to settle for a FG. On LSU’s third drive, they moved the ball down the field with some good plays and some help from Florida but could only come away with a tying FG. Florida then moved the ball down the field when Tebow hit Riley Cooper on a 24yd pass for a TD to take a 10-3 halftime lead.

The 2nd half….

Just like the 1st half, Florida ran the ball with Demps & Rainey just eating up the clock. 

LSU on the other hand just couldn’t move the ball or pass. The Florida defense confused Jordan Jefferson all night.

Superman did make one mistake late in the 4th quarter by throwing an interception that Eugene made to stop the Florida drive. But like most of LSU’s drives, they did nothing with it. Now before I do my closing comments about the game here are the stats.

Tim Tebow: 11 for 15, 132yds, 1TD, 1INT, 18 for 37 rushing,

Jeffery Demps: 15 for 85yds

Aaron Hernandez: 6 for 69yds

LSU

Jordan Jefferson: 11 for 17, 98yds, 1INT

Charles Scott: 13 for 52yds

Branton Lafell: 4 for 46yds

In closing, this was a good old fashion Saturday night grudge match with Florida coming out of Death Valley with a 13-3 win.
